Participants will receive a $500 stipend upon completion of the training. Individuals who enter the field following the training will receive an additional $500 after 60 days of employment.
How long is this training?
Each training is approximately 2 weeks with full-day classes.

Who is this training for?
Energy Works trainings are for individuals aged 17+ who would like to learn more about the green energy sector with an interest in entering Vermont’s workforce of Weatherization and Heat Pump installation.
Where are trainings offered?
Energy Works is a statewide opportunity. We are always looking to expand into regions of Vermont that we have not yet held a training or to offer additional trainings. See our upcoming schedule to learn more or to request training in your area.
Will I be comfortable at these trainings?
We strive to provide a comfortable learning environment for all and will work with any participants who need accommodations. Each participant is asked to sign and adhere to a Safety Policy for Everyone. Many trainings also include a gender equity component in partnership with Vermont Works for Women.
Is transportation provided?
Yes! If you’re in need of transportation, please contact Jeff Nerney at [email protected] as soon as possible and we’ll do our best to provide transportation to those who need it. Transportation is only provided to and from training and will not be available for any employment following completion of the training.
Is childcare provided?
While we don’t provide childcare onsite, we do provide a stipend for childcare that must be paid directly to a licensed childcare provider.
What certifications will I receive?
Our full standard training includes certifications in First Aid/CPR/AED and OSHA-10. The Heat Pump training also includes an opportunity to earn EPA 608 certification.
I already have a certification being offered, do I need to attend that portion of the training?
If you already have a certification that is being offered as part of the training, you must provide valid proof of certification in order to be exempt from this portion of the training and still be eligible for the stipend.
What other support is provided?
In addition to childcare, transportation, and other job-readiness support specific to Energy Works trainings, Vermont Adult Learning offers a variety of other education support including High School Completion, GED testing, College & Career Readiness, English Language Learning, and more.
What types of jobs will I qualify for after completing this training? What is the salary?
Weatherization: Following completion of this training, you’ll have the necessary skills to jumpstart your career as a Weatherization Technician. Participants entering the workforce as Weatherization Technicians earn an average starting salary of $21/hour.
Heat Pump Installation: Following completion of this training, you’ll have the necessary skills to jumpstart your career as a Heat Pump Installer with growth opportunities for installation and service on larger HVAC systems. Many participants following these trainings begin work at smaller HVAC businesses with an average starting salary of $18-$22/hour.
What is the typical career path following an Energy Works training?
Weatherization: An entry-level position starts as a Weatherization Technician or Crew Member. After time in the field and experience in the industry, many technicians move into roles such as Crew Leader, Energy Auditor, and eventually to Quality Control Inspectors.
Heat Pump Installation: The Energy Works training for Heat Pump Installation provides participants the opportunity to receive their EPA 608 certification which allows individuals to service and maintain various levels of refrigerants. Time in the field as a Heat Pump Installer allows for additional career opportunities within the HVAC industry, and the EPA 608 certification opens various doors to build your career as an HVAC Technician servicing larger commercial grade units.
